I first heard about Crossfit from my cousin during a trip home for Thanksgiving. She does Crossfit in Texas. Seeing her results peaked my interest. I came home and researched Crossfit in Louisville. I was reluctant to actually go in and check it out, because I have gone to gyms in the past and did not have any desire to join another one. After doing P90X religiously for a full 13 weeks with very little progress, I decided to check out Crossfit Louisville East.
I met with Dan and he explained how and why Crossfit is like nothing else. I set up my elements classes with William. William was very professional and knowledgeable about Crossfit and fitness in general. He was also very patient with me, even when I was frustrated with myself. I attended my first class in May. Everyone was so friendly and encouraging. Once you attend your first class you’ll see why their encouragement means so much!
All the trainers are great. It is like having a personal trainer at every workout. The trainers, and even the others in class with you are always pushing you to do your best. I think Dan’s favorite words are “you can add more weight”.
Due to their encouragement and guidance I have already gone from 21.48% body fat down to 17.66% in just under two months. I’ve always wanted to do clapping push ups, now I can! Actually, they are nothing compared to other things I’ve done since being at Crossfit. Things that I saw others doing two months ago, that I thought would take me forever to be able to do, I am already starting to get. I am officially addicted to Crossfit! I wish I would not have waited so long to get started.
I made my 14 year old son try it a few weeks ago. Now he loves it and attends four classes week. Crossfit is for everyone, no matter what your age or fitness level. You’ll be able to do things you never thought possible.

I had never heard of CrossFit until last year, after a couple of friends introduced it to me. I researched it for a couple of months and decided to give it a try. In January 2011, after speaking with Daniel Barnett, owner of CrossFit Louisville East, I joined his gym. Four months later, one thing I wish is that I had found CrossFit years ago!
This gym is like no other I’ve joined. It is not your typical, traditional gym; which is a very good thing. I started by attending three personal training sessions with trainer Nicki Reading, to get a basic understanding of some of the CrossFit exercises. She was great. She encouraged me and was patient when I struggled. I then began attending the CrossFit classes, which are led by several different trainers. Since attending these classes, I have made more improvements in my fitness level, in a few short months; than I have with any other program I’ve tried. I’m 42 years old and have been involved in physical fitness since my teenage years. I’ve tried aerobics, weightlifting, cycling, running and most recently P90X. None of these activities came close to doing for me what CrossFit has done. I am getting stronger than I’ve ever been, and my conditioning is improving every week. Other great things about CrossFit are the variety of the workouts, and that CrossFit can be adapted to any skill level. As you gain more strength and conditioning, the less the workouts have to be scaled. This is challenging and rewarding, and keeps me working hard.
One thing I love about the classes at CrossFit Louisville East is the comradery and inspiration I get from the other members and trainers. We encourage and pushed each other to do more than we think we can. This is something I really need and never got from traditional gyms. Daniel Barnett and all of the trainers I’ve met at CrossFit Louisville East are professional and extremely knowledgeable about CrossFit. They take time to teach members the correct form for different lifts or workouts, and to discuss any aspect of fitness and nutrition. They are the best and I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at CrossFit Louisville East.

I moved to Louisville in August for grad school and was waiting for the turn of the year to find something to do for exercise. Before moving out here, I had been active in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for two years. That was my exercise/addiction. In February of this year, I decided that I wanted a more complete workout and started looking into Crossfit. After checking out other Crossfit gyms in the area, what attracted me to Crossfit Louisville East was the class schedule. Really, that was the main thing I was looking for. When I came in, JoEllyn greeted me with a smile and was as nice as can be (remember that detail).
It is now two months later. I’ve always been a heavier guy (5’8”, 235 when I came in), but the one thing I do have to my credit is that I will give whatever I’m doing my best effort, and it has definitely paid off here. I have lost 15 pounds of fat and gained 5 pounds of lean mass in the first two months of working out, and I’m down 6% body fat. I realize that trend won’t continue, but the reality is that I haven’t seen that kind of change in any exercise I’ve done before (BJJ, swimming, or running). If there is any encouragement I can offer, it would be this: show up every day and do whatever it takes to finish the workout. Now in my third month, I am just starting to be able to do the workouts at the recommended weights, but man it feels good to know I’m getting stronger. If you are willing to put the work in, you will get results.
So back to JoEllyn. Turns out that innocent, smiley-faced young lady that greeted me in the morning is a beast in the gym; and she’s not alone. The trainers at Crossfit Louisville East are top notch. They are extremely knowledgeable, courteous, encouraging, and they take the time to get to know your potential so that they can push you. The atmosphere in the gym is great too. It is evident that everyone is there for the same reason, to get better, and they are all very encouraging. It is a motivator to see people doing better than me, and it is cool to be able to encourage someone who just started out like I did two months back.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dan, the staff, the members, and the gym. It has been a great experience pushing myself and seeing results, as well as getting to know new people in town. If you are ready to work hard and see results for it, Crossfit Louisville East will definitely show you the way. See you in class.

I first met Daniel in October 2010, after I failed a test for a specific career I was trying to obtain. Daniel worked with me and created a specific plan that helped me pass the test on my next attempt. After that, I started at CrossFit Louisville East, and I can safely say that, as a result, I’m currently in the best shape of my life.
The trainers at CrossFit Louisville East are amazingly patient and helpful while being experts in health, fitness, and nutrition. Whether you want a trainer to help you modify your diet, to spend time with you one-on-one to work on moves, or to push you harder than you ever thought possible, you will find it at CrossFit Louisville East. The support I have found from both the trainers and the other clients has been amazing and vitally essential to my progress. I will never return to the cold indifference I previously experienced at other globo gyms. At CrossFit Louisville East, I have found a gym “family” I had never thought I would find.
The results I have experienced have been amazing as well. When I started at CrossFit Louisville East, I was a very tiny, thin wisp of a woman with hardly any strength. In the past five months, I have gained a healthy amount of muscle mass, looking and performing more like an athlete. In January alone, I lost approximately 1.5lbs of fat and gained 3.5lbs of lean mass! My performance has improved significantly as well. For example, my deadlift five-rep maximum increased from 115lb at the end of the November 2010 to 145lb less than two months later. Thanks to the encouragement of the trainers, I have also developed a mental tenacity that helps me deal with difficult times outside the gym, too.
I highly recommend CrossFit Louisville East to anyone who is truly interested in improving their quality of life. You bring the willingness to work hard and a desire to make a positive change in your life. The trainers and community at CrossFit Louisville East will provide you with the training, tools, and support, not just to accomplish, but to exceed your goals.

“I came to CrossFit Louisville East at the beginning of last summer. I started off with giving Daniel a career goal of mine to help me train for, after a month CrossFit quickly became an addiction.
Prior to coming to Daniel I was a member of another CrossFit gym. I didn’t feel like I received the type of professional attention I receive at CrossFit Louisville East. Everyone knows at Daniel’s gym it’s hard to slack off, since the trainers take the time to get to know you, and your capabilities.
When I first came to CrossFit Louisville East I was running a little shy of an 8 minute mile. With guidance of Daniel and his trainers on what I should eat, and how I should train, my mile time is now around 6:20. Not only has Daniel and his staff led me in the path to reach my career goals, but I’ve lost over 25 pounds and almost 4 pants sizes in the process.
I can’t say enough good things about CrossFit Louisville East and its staff. If you’re reading this with thoughts of checking out the gym, all I can say is you won’t be disappointed and definitely will be surprised with the changes your fitness level will make”.
